Calendar of launch for the first new Internet extensions (NewgTLDs)

24 new Internet extensions have been delegated in the DNS root by ICANN. Marks registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) will be able to register in priority ("sunrise period") their domain names in NewgTLDs such as the .CLOTHING or the future .EMAIL or .LUXURY.

On October 23rd, 2013, ICANN has delegated four new Internet extensions in non-Latin characters:

  • شبكة ( xn - ngbc5azd ) or “web” in Arabic
  • онлайн ( xn - 80asehdb ) or “online” in Cyrillic
  • сайт ( xn - 80aswg ) or “website” in Cyrillic
  • 游戏( xn - unup4y ) or “games” in Chinese

On October 31st, 2013, the .WEB in Arabic characters (called “Shabaka”) began its sunrise period for trademarks registered in the TMCH. The sunrise period will end on 31st December 2013. The extension “Shabaka” only accepts domain names in Arabic.

On November 6, 2013, the first new extensions in Latin characters (.BIKE, .CLOTHING, .GURU, .HOLDINGS, .PLUMBING, .SINGLES and .VENTURES) were integrated into the DNS root. Donuts, an applicant who submitted for more than 300 NewgTLDs, announced the launch of the sunrise period from November 26th 2013 to January 24th 2014 for .BIKE, .CLOTHING, .GURU, .HOLDINGS, .PLUMBING, .SINGLES and .VENTURES.

Donuts decided to select the "End-Date Sunrise” option. This kind of "sunrise period" has a minimum length of 60 days. The domain names are assigned at the end of the sunrise and / or through auctions for domain names that received more than one separate registration. New extensions requested by Donuts are all open to all.

TMCH : phases for the launch of a new extension

  • 658 applications are on contention
  • 399 applications received GAC advice
  • 128 appliants withdrew their NewgTLD application (status Withdrawn)
  • 100 applications have an objection
  • 29 NewgTLDs have their initial (IE) or evaluation (EE) ongoing
  • 4 NewgTLDs have not been approved (.GCC, .THAI, and .AFRICA by DotConnectAfrica Trust)

On November 19th, 2013, 960 applicants were invited by ICANN to sign the Registry Agreement among the 1769 NewgTLDs positively evaluated by ICANN. 144 NewgTLDs signed the Registry Agreement like .BUZZ, .BERLIN, .CAMERA, .CONSTRUCTION, .DANCE, .EMAIL, .LUXURY, .MENU, .GUIDE, .PHOTO or .SEXY...

These future extensions will soon be integrated into the DNS root and will then begin their "sunrise period" for trademark registered in the TMCH, and gradually open the registration periods to "Landrush" then open to all at the normal rate.
