The vast majority of international brands are registered within the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH), which gives them priority in registering their trademark or brand name in NewgTLDs. However, Coca Cola, Ford and Toyota have not protected their brands are victims of cybersquatting on NewgTLDs.

Which extension will be evaluated during the first week? On December, 17th 2012, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organized a prioritization draw in Los Angeles to assign priority numbers to all new gTLD applications. The aim of this randomly-drawn priority number is to determine the order for the initial evaluation.

On the 12th of July 2012, the initial evaluations of the new generic Top-level-domains (NewgTLDs) applications are set to begin.  Several periods of objections are available to the various actors of the Internet industry to protest against a NewgTLD. The objection period will last seven months.
In order to guarantee the security of the existing domain name attribution system, ICANN have provided a list of terms that cannot be registered in the new domain name extensions to be launched. The number of blocked terms varies depending on the NewgTLD (120,000 for .DELL).
In its special edition for the INTA meeting in Dallas (No. 13 of 02.04.2013), the magazine IPPro The Internet has organized a round table about the NewgTLD programme supported by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Donuts Inc, candidate for about 307 new extensions (eg: .BLOG, .CREDIT, .WINE...), offers a program of protection for trademark holders. Entitled "Domains Protected Marks List (DPML)", this premium service enables trademark holders to block their brand names in all the TLDs managed by Donuts in one time.

On December 17th 2012, a prioritization draw will be held in Los Angeles for candidates to the new Internet extensions (NewGTLDs) to know their position in the evaluation of their application by the ICANN team. In addition, the GAC (Governmental Advisory Committee), an advisory committee representing governments at ICANN has issued 242 alerts for 200 separate applications.
